The first aim of Ayurved is to prevent the occurrence of disease and secondly to treat the already existing diseases. Panchshodhan or Panchkarma is the branch which is helpful in fulfilling both these aims. Human body contains three main doshas i.e. VATA, PITTA and KAPHA. These are considered as the prime reason for any disease occurring in the human body. These doshas are present in every human body in a specific natural proportion which is required to carry out the daily activities of the body. However, when they increase or decrease due to any reasons, may be seasonal or personal behaviour, they start producing signs and symptoms which further take the form of a disease.
Panchkarma is that special design of treatment which is aimed to remove this unwanted amount of Doshas which are responsible for disease production in the body. The word PANCHKARMA means 5 procedures and PANCHSHODHAN means 5 purification procedures which purify the human body from the above said extra amount of Doshas and help is maintaining their equilibrium which is utmost necessary to lead a healthy disease free life.
The first amongst these karmas is VAMAN. This is the procedure in which unwanted amount of Kapha is removed from the body. This is a process of medicated induced vomiting in which Kapha is removed without causing any other complications to the patient. It is not like regular vomiting which contains forceful evacuation of the stomach contents from the human body. However it is performed after a small procedure of Purva-karma which stimulates accumulation of Kapha dosha. Our Panchakarma Ayurvedic Clinic in Vadodara stands as a serene sanctuary dedicated to holistic healing and wellness.
For diagnosis Dasvidh and astavidh pariksha including the well pronounced nadiparikshan and also modern scan reports are taken under consideration. Taking as our base the tridosh parikshan, we also do not over look modern, stress full and hurricane life style.
in the stomach and this Kapha dosha only with small amount of Pitta is removed from the body. Mouth is considered as the nearest opening from which Kapha can be removed, hence Vaman is specifically indicated for it. Vaman is performed in the month of Chaitra which comes in Vasant ritu. This has been indicated for normal healthy person who wishes to be free from any kind of Kapha diseases. A person already suffering from Kapha disease can perform Vaman anytime of the year.
Similarly VIRECHAN is the second procedure where unwanted amount of Pitta is removed from the body by medicated induced loose motions. Virechan is also not like the regular loose motions (diarrhoea) which are pathological in nature and require medications to sustain them. But Virechan is medicated and induced loose motions which can be stopped anytime and everytime the Physician wants. No need of medications is
required for it. As Pitta resides in the area between the Heart and Umbilicus, Virechan is the easiest method of removing unwanted amount of Pitta which is causing diseases in patients. Virechan is performed in the month of Kartik which comes in Sharad ritu. This again has been indicated for normal healthy person who wishes to be free from any kind of Pitta diseases. A person already suffereing from Pitta disorder can perform Virechan anytime of the year.
The third karma is BASTI which is performed for the most powerful dosha in the body known as Vata. Basti again is medicated enema which is administered to the patient to remove the unwanted amount of Vata causing problems to the patient. There are basically two types of Basti as Anuvasan and Asthapan basti which perform the function of Shaman and Shodhan of Vata.
Depending upon the ingredients used, Basti is of multiple types and can be given in each and every disease conditions. It has a very broad spectrum of activity and is considered as ½ of the treatment explained in Ayurved. The natural month which is indicated for Basti is Shravan which comes under Varsha ritu. Similar to Vaman and Virechan, this time is indicated for normal healthy person while a person suffering from Vata disorder can perform this treatment module anytime of the year.
The fourth karma is named as NASYA. Here, medicated oils, ghee or other forms of medicine is administered in the through nostrils (nose) in the patient's body. The fifth and the last karma is RAKTAMOKSHAN. Here, impure blood is removed from the body by applying Leeches or Blood letting is done similar to Blood donation
Every karma has its specific site of action and acts on the specific dosha of the human body. These karma are done in the form of courses of some days to even months depending upon the severity of the diseases. The continuity of Karma while performing a course is very important as Karma performed each day acts on specific stages of the disease.
